Another short meeting. I will try not to put you to sleep. The best part were the public comments so look at the council meeting on YouTube. (There were comments about another mil increase in the budget.)
Voted Yes: Second Reading - Ordinance 2025-01 to amend Section 99.01 of Chapter 99 of Title IX of the Easley City Code. As I stated during the first reading, this was a clarification of the existing ordinance. Never hurts to clean something up.
Voted No: First Reading – Ordinance 2025-02 to rezone property on 738 E. Main Street from R7.5 to NC (neighborhood commercial). Description of Neighborhood Commercial District: “This District is intended to meet the commercial and service needs generated by nearby residential areas. Goods and services normally available in this district are of the “convenience variety.” The size of any such districts should relate to surrounding residential markets and the locations should be at or near major intersections.”
Although the owner stressed that he wanted this property to be a law office or something similar, this cannot be guaranteed as he does not have a tenant yet. But the zoning is restricted to what can go there. I will be putting more thought into this for the second reading.
Voted No: Resolution 2025-05 to accept certain roads (Cottage Grove) from Deacon Development into the city. The city has no money allocated to fully repair our roads. They are filling pot holes but no planned resurfacing. I even asked in the past if there was an inventory of the roads and what their status was. No data yet.
IMPORTANT INFO
On Feb 25, there was a joint meeting of the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals for a discussion on the new Unified Development Ordinance. This new ordinance will combine the current zoning ordinance and land development ordinance and to make sure it follows the Comprehensive Plan. There were only a handful of people there. The city did not make much of an effort to advertise this. The mayor failed to mention it on her Facebook page and there was nothing on the city’s Facebook page either about the meeting. There was a notice in the Easley Progress in the legal section but it was small. The city needs to make a better effort to inform the public of meetings! If you do not want an RV park and a campground in the city limits or a document that does not slow growth, then show up and voice your concerns at the next meeting.

Be sure to watch In Depth with Mason Sims Podcast on Wed 3/12 at 6 pm (Episode 24). He will have a guest who has concerns about the Easley UDO ordinance. His podcast is on YouTube:
