Janurary 13th Council Meeting

Published on 14 January 2025 at 21:31

This was a short council meeting with only two items on the agenda.

Second reading on Ordinance 2024-15. Rezoning of property on East Main Street. I voted NO on this. There are still a lot of residential property surrounding this parcel. General Commercial should not encroach into residential properties. The owner did speak last week and stated he does not want to see the home demolished. His best bet would be to request neighborhood commercial which would be something like an office type business.

Resolution 2024-01. Resolutions only require one reading.  This resolution was to appoint Jennifer Gilstrap to a two year term as Assistant Judge for the city of Easley. I voted yes. Judge Snow, in the work session, gave the background on Ms. Gilstrap and I believe she is fully qualified to hold this position.

Warned you it was short!  :)

Just a heads up. It is almost budget season and the council starts next month with determining their goals for the city. In addition, I think the department heads may be presenting their needs for their departments as well.  I am reaching out to you, the citizens of Easley, to provide suggestions for things to consider during the budget meeting. Send suggestions to me at my city email  address, drainey@cityofeasley.com. I'll compile a list (no name attached unless you want yours on there) and give copies to the other council members. Cannot promise your suggestions will be included but I feel feedback from the taxpayers is a must when determining budgets needs.
