Voted YES: Ordinance 2024-09 - to amend fiscal year 24/25 operating budget to authorize a lease/purchase agreement, series 2024 in the principal amount of not exceeding $2,600,000 relating to the authorizing the execution and delivery of various documents including the leases/purchase agreement; and other matters relating thereto. (Second Reading)
As I stated here last month this is not additional money for the down payment as this was moving previously allocated money from a cancelled order of another truck and the price of the equipment was increasing. It will be 43 months before this truck can be delivered. The fire truck would be replacing a 35-year-old truck. Also keeping the ISO rating low will keep our insurance rates low. Voted YES: Ordinance 2024-10 – to amend Section 30.22(C) Chapter 30 of Title III of the Easley City Code.
I voted yes because there was no impact to the citizens with this ordinance change. I found this request rather odd, when in fact, there was a first reading on the council’s expense pay, which is being paid as a per diem and is against SC state law. This ordinance was tabled as the amount of expense was not specified. The suggestion was made to add it to the ‘council retreat’, which it was.
When I received the agenda on Thursday before the Monday meeting, I sent the mayor an email asking why that was not on the agenda. She replied the attorney suggested not to include it due to the “state of emergency.” So now, it is another month the city is not abiding by state law.
Voted YES: Resolution 2024-09-to authorize the City of Easley to assume a claim deductible with the South Carolina Municipal Insurance and Risk Financing Fund.
This one was an easy Yes as this represents a cost savings of $39,048. Now, the council should request this savings be re-allocated to something important that did not get added into the budget. This money should not be spent frivolously just because it was already allocated.
Voted YES: Council Vote of Approval – A Tax Distribution
The A-Tax Committee recommended the distribution of the accommodation taxes the city has received. I was fine with the distribution.
I do want to make sure everyone is ok after Helene’s appearance. It will take a while to get the debris cleaned up. Want to remind everyone the debris must be on the right of way (not in the road) for it to be picked up. Also, there is a size limit of 6 feet in length.
See the city’s website for additional details.

NOTE: Important Meeting - the drop in has been rescheduled for the land development/zoning ordinance re-write. It is being held on Oct 24th. I will post details as soon as it hits the city’s website. There will be two sessions so that people will have the opportunity to attend. This is the only chance for YOU to let the city know how you want Easley to grow, how the developments should look, etc.
